The M.A.S.S. Project provides uninsured women access to FREE breast health education and mammography screenings at their place of worship.
What We Do
Mammograms After Sunday Service (MASS) is a project by The Beautiful Gate (TBG) Cancer Support & Resource Center. The MASS project provides breast health education seminars and onsite mammograms or referrals after Sunday service at predominantly African American churches. By increasing knowledge and awareness of breast cancer and communicating the importance of obtaining mammograms there will be an increase in acceptance of mammogram screening in African American women.
Why We Do It
The mortality rate of African American women with breast cancer is alarming. There is a need for breast health education and awareness in this community on a continuous basis until there is evidence of improved survival rates. Alarming statistics highlight the fact that cancers of the breast are too often being diagnosed in a late stage when treatment is less likely to be successful.
What Should I Do?
Attend a MASS program! The MASS program will bring combined services such as breast education, onsite mammograms, referral screenings and various resources directly to the African American churches that ministers to our target audience on trusted ground after their spiritual experience.
